Private GP FAQs

We are able to discuss any health concerns you may have, that are non-emergency. For more information about what is included when visiting a private doctor or GP look at above under what is included.

Our private GP and private doctor appointments offer far shorter waitlists compared to the NHS.

We will try to fit your appointment in as soon as possible at a time that suits you. We can often provide same-day or next-day appointments for more serious cases.

Private medical appointments can be paid for by yourself or in some cases, for those with health insurance, providers may cover consultation and investigation fees – please check with your provider.

Any private prescriptions provided can be redeemed from any pharmacy at your normal prescription cost.

If you require further medical care our private GP will refer you to the appropriate treatment. This will be explained in detail during your consultation, including any additional charges this may incur.

Yes, you can see a private GP remotely through our convenient and flexible remote GP appointment services. Designed to cater to the demands of a busy lifestyle, our virtual appointments eliminate the need for a physical visit to our clinic. Scheduling is tailored to your specific preferences, providing you with the flexibility you need.

During virtual GP appointments, our experienced doctors will assess your condition to determine the appropriate course of action, whether it be further treatment or a prescription. In many cases, we can provide prescriptions without requiring a face-to-face visit. If additional treatment or medication is necessary, you may be required to visit our clinic.

Yes, your private GP can provide you with a prescription when it is deemed appropriate during your consultation. In cases where medication is part of the recommended follow-up action, your GP can electronically send the prescription to your preferred pharmacy for convenient and efficient processing. This allows you to receive the prescribed medication without the need for a physical paper prescription.
In general, the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK does not cover the cost of private treatments. The NHS provides comprehensive healthcare services to residents free at the point of use, but this typically applies to treatments offered within the NHS system.

If you choose to receive private treatment, you are responsible for covering the associated costs. Here at GAP, we do not currently offer NHS treatments, therefore these must be funded privately or through private health insurance.

The cost of a private consultation at The GAP Clinic can vary, but guidelines are as follows:

15-minute appointment: £60

30-minute appointment: £120

45-minute appointment: £180

60-minute appointment: £240

Yes, a private doctor can refer you to the National Health Service (NHS) if it is deemed necessary based on your medical condition. Private healthcare and the NHS can work collaboratively to ensure you receive comprehensive and coordinated medical care.

The referral process typically involves your private doctor communicating with an NHS specialist or consultant who has the expertise in the specific area relevant to your health needs. This referral facilitates the continuity of care, allowing you access to additional services and resources within the NHS.

In many cases, private medical insurance (PMI) can cover the costs of a private GP. However, coverage can vary depending on the specific terms and conditions of your insurance policy. It’s advisable to review your policy documents or contact your insurance provider directly to understand the extent of coverage for private GP services.
No, we do not offer walk-in services. Here at the GAP clinic, we prioritise flexible and adaptable appointment options to accommodate your schedule and preferences. While we provide flexible appointment times and 1:1 consultations with private doctors, these appointments are scheduled in advance to ensure that you receive personalized and efficient care.

You can choose between virtual or face-to-face consultations, allowing you the flexibility to access healthcare in a manner that suits your needs. To ensure that you receive the attention and time required for your consultation, we recommend scheduling an appointment in advance. This approach enables us to provide a high standard of care tailored to your specific healthcare needs.
